Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung
Ambassador
Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998. He assumed charge as Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia in January 2025.
Mr. Bawitlung’s first posting abroad was to Japan where he learnt the Japanese language. He has also served in Indian Missions and Posts in Tokyo, Shanghai and Brussels in various capacities. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Cairo and Consul General of India in Sydney (Australia) before being appointed as Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan in 2019.
At Headquarters, Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung has served in the Ministry of External Affairs in various capacities as Under Secretary from 2006-07 and Director from 2014-2016. Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung also served as Private Secretary to the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region and Panchayati Raj from 2007-2009.
After his return from Azerbaijan in July 2022, he assumed the charge of the Joint Secretary (Administration) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Mr. Bawitlung was educated at St. Stephens College, Delhi University where he studied B.Sc (Computer Science). Apart from English and Japanese, the officer speaks Hindi and Mizo languages.
